It's a Boy!!

It's a Boy.......!!!

Grayson Coleman Little

We are so excited to be having a little boy, especially Tyler, I haven't seen him this excited in a long time (which is so precious), I'm excited too, but I totally thought we were going to have a little girl so it's taking me a little while to come to terms with the whole boy thing, I don't know what to do with a boy, ha. The Jones family is not used to little boys so this is a whole new ball game for us, but we can't wait! We weren't supposed to find out the sex for several more weeks, so here's how this whole thing went down.....

We had our 16 week appointment Friday, an appointment that was just supposed to be a regular appointment where they find the heartbeat with a doppler and we get to hear the precious little gift from God. On my previous appointment (12 weeks) the doctor explained that the next visit would be the same as that one and then at that visit we could make the appointment for the 'anatomy ultrasound' where we find out the sex of the baby (amongst other things), and this was to be done between 18-20 weeks. I accepted that, although not knowing what I was carrying inside of me was absolutely killing me (just ask my mother and all of my co-workers, I am sure they were sick of me whining about it). But all in all I was content with waiting until that time to find out.

Well my best friend from college who is due 2 days before me, had her 16 week appointment and by goodness if she didn't find out that she was having a boy! She said she begged the doctor to do an ultrasound (this does not surprise me, I can totally see her doing this.) When I caught wind she got to find out the sex of her baby I was bound and determined that I was going to do the same!

So, Friday morning we are in the doctor's office and I ever so sweetly asked her if there was any way that we could find out the sex of the baby at this visit. She told me NO! I was super mad, I don't like for people to tell me no, haha. She every so kindly told me that she would if she could but they like for them to wait and do it between 18-20 weeks so that they don't miss any anatomical abnormalities with the brain or the heart because they are not large enough to be seen clearly on ultrasound until then (ok I'm cool with that). Then my sweet little doctor, whom I love, had the nerve to tell me that if she had the ability to hook me up to the ultrasound machine real quickly (that are right down the hall mind you) to determine the sex of the baby then she would but she "just couldn't, there wasn't one available." Well HELLO!! I work at this hospital lady, I know that I did not receive my raise for not 1 but 2 years so that millions of dollars could be spent on this state of the art Women's and Infant Center that we are both currently standing in. We both know there is more than 1, probably more than 10 ultrasound machines, just down the hall, your not fooling me Doc! But being the sweet southern lady my momma and daddy raised me to be, I did not say anything I just went with it.....but little did the doctor know, little Grayson is already a momma's boy, he had a plan!!

So the doctor layed me down and proceeded to doppler my belly to find the heartbeat. All we could hear was the movement of the baby, loud fast movements. She kept saying "wow this baby is active, it won't sit still....do you hear that, that's it moving around......oh my goodness it is having a party in there.....I cannot get it to stay still long enough for me to find a heartbeat.....I know the heart is fine because it is moving around so much......" Haha Grayson said "two can play this game lady." Well they have to confirm cardiac activity at every visit, and she could not locate it with the doppler so what does that mean......Ultrasound! I was pumped we were going to get to find out if we were having a boy or girl, and little did we know Grayson was bound and determined for us to find out, just like his momma. So we stroll on down the hall, to an ultrasound room (gee Doc, that was easy), they slapped that machine on me, we watched on the screen.....cardiac activity confirmed (check) then sweet little Grayson slowed down and spread his legs so that we could find the landmark....."It's a boy, there's the penis" we heard, my mouth dropped I was blindsided, like I said I thought for sure we were having a little baby Caroline, but nope a boy, Tyler meanwhile had his own little party going on, screaming "Yes!!" and throwing his hands up in the air, he is getting his little boy that he always wanted, little does he know mommy and Grayson already share a special bond, were going to get what we want no matter what. I am so proud of that little stinker for acting out the way he did so that Mommy and Daddy would have the chance to find out, that'a boy!

It wasn't easy, but we are so happy to finally know that we will be welcoming Grayson Coleman Little into this world come August. The name you might ask....Grayson is a name we both have liked for a long time and always agreed on. Coleman is a Jones family name, one that he will share with my daddy, grandaddy, and great-grandaddy, I think it is so special and we are so happy to carry on the tradition.
